It is a well-known fact that Invictus is a drama movie which is based on a passage from Nelson Mandela’s life during the Third Rugby World Cup in 1995. However, I think that this film can show us the reflection of the South African society of that time and how the union between whites and blacks was achieved through sport.
In fact, along the movie there are a lot of mementos in which black people feel inferior to white people. For example, when whites think that they have more rights than blacks and because of that it was creating a separation between them.
Moreover, there was a racial discrimination because there was a constant struggle for values, for status, power and scarce resources. For these reasons, Mandela sees as a solution to focus on rugby by giving it a totally different approach and with the aim of unifying the entire country through this sport.
To sum up, this movie reflects how people can forget grudges so that they can all row in the same direction and in that way achieve strength and victory.
